Marathon’s server slam has concluded, leaving players with a brief window before the full release on March 5th. Bungie has shared key feedback areas it is evaluating, including the possibility of adding a dedicated duos mode, refining time-to-kill mechanics, and adjusting consumables to improve player experience.
The developer highlights that deeper progression in Marathon appears to increase player enjoyment, suggesting that early challenges are intentional. This aligns with design philosophies seen in other games like Escape from Tarkov or Arc Raiders, where upgrades play a crucial role in balancing difficulty.
One of the primary concerns Bungie is addressing is time-to-kill (TTK). Players have expressed mixed opinions on the current pace, with some preferring longer duels and more Runner interactions. The team is also reviewing Runner density on non-beginner maps to ensure a balanced experience while maintaining the intended feel of maps like Perimeter and Dire Marsh.
Consumables economy is another focus area. Players have noted that meds and ammo can deplete quickly, especially in back-to-back fights. Bungie is considering adjustments to vendor bartering mechanics to provide a more sustainable flow of healing items without relying solely on credit purchases. Initial complaints about stinginess may have been premature, as trading materials for patch kits and shield charges offers an alternative to direct spending.
Performance issues remain a priority, with reports of high CPU usage, low GPU utilization, and frame hitches during intense moments. Bungie is urging players experiencing these problems to submit detailed logs, including CPU, GPU, driver versions, resolution settings, and short clips for further analysis on their Help Forums.
Movement mechanics are also under review, with requests for smoother slide transitions, better momentum retention on downhill slopes, and reduced heat generation during core movement. These adjustments aim to refine chases and disengages while maintaining the game’s tactical depth.
While Bungie has not committed to any specific changes, it is actively logging feedback and remains open to player input. The team emphasizes that there is still room for more suggestions before finalizing adjustments post-launch.
