Nioh 3 breaks from the typical Soulsborne tradition by offering unrestricted respecs for both stats and skills—no cooldowns, no restrictions. This flexibility lets players experiment with builds without permanent consequences, but unlocking the feature requires progressing past the prologue. Once available, the process is straightforward, though a few button prompts and menu navigation are involved.
The game’s respec system is designed to accommodate players who want to test different combat styles, whether favoring brute strength, agility, or specialized martial arts techniques. Unlike many action RPGs, Nioh 3* doesn’t lock players into early choices, making it easier to adapt strategies as the game progresses.
Respecing Stats in Nioh 3
To reset your character’s stats, you’ll need to
- Visit any shrine—Prospect Hill to the west is a reliable starting point if you’re new to the open world.
- Select the level-up option from the menu.
- Press 3 on keyboard or click the left stick on controller to enter the stat redistribution screen.
- Drag remaining stat points into new categories (Vitality, Strength, Agility, etc.).
- Confirm your changes with Space (keyboard) or A (controller).
This can be done as many times as needed, so players aren’t stuck with suboptimal builds. The system encourages experimentation without fear of wasted progress.
Respecing Skills in Nioh 3
Skills in Nioh 3—both Samurai and Ninja techniques—can also be fully reset. To do this
- Open the menu via ESC (keyboard) or the start button (controller).
- Navigate to Acquire Martial Arts/Ninjutsu.
- Enter a skill node where points have been spent.
- Press 3 or click the left stick to reset all points in that tree (or the entire category, depending on the node).
For Ninja skills, you’ll need to enter the Ninja tree separately and repeat the process. Once reset, you can reallocate skill points freely, allowing for complete reinvention of your playstyle.
The game’s respec system stands out as a player-friendly feature, especially for those who enjoy tinkering with builds. While other Souls-like titles often require grinding to recover from poor early choices, Nioh 3* removes that barrier entirely.
