Ming-Chi Kuo Warns Apple’s Siri Must Outclass Google Gemini at WWDC 2026, Not Just Catch Up After Years of Delay Rohail Saleem • at EDT Add on Google Apple continues to explore homegrown methods for improving Siri. Apple's Siri-related test case is finally at hand, and no amount of prevarication will forestall judgement. Now, one analyst has aggressively upped the proverbial stakes by declaring that Apple will not only have to match but also exceed the typical utility offered by Google's Gemini-class AI models in disparate spheres. Ming Chi-Kuo: Apple's new Siri will have to "deliver better AI applications, agentic workflows, and on-device & cloud hybrid experiences than Google" WWDC26 won't change Apple's positive 2H26 share-price trend, but it will test the staying power of the bull narrative‒‒ 1. Apple's core bull narrative right now is an almost intuitive market consensus that few people push back on: "Even if Apple is temporarily behind on AI, it…— 郭明錤|Ming-Chi Kuo (@mingchikuo) June 8, 2026 The famous Apple analyst, Ming Chi-Kuo, has penned an interesting post on the eve of WWDC 2026, noting that while people have generally kept faith that Apple will "ultimately catch up and come out ahead" on AI, the time for prevarication is up, and that the maker of iPhones now has to not just match but exceed the utility offered by Google's stock Gemini AI models to truly impress: Related Story Apple’s M5 Ultra Could Make A Surprise Appearance At WWDC 2026 To Deliver A Solid AI Push, Rumored Specifications Include 1,000GB/s Bandwidth, 36-Core CPU & More "The key takeaway from WWDC26 will not be the short-term share-price reaction after the event. It will be whether Apple, using the same Gemini, can deliver better AI applications, agentic workflows, and on-device & cloud hybrid experiences than Google." For the benefit of those who might not be aware, along with a host of accessibility features, the new Siri, bundled with the iOS 27 update, is expected to bring the much-delayed on-screen awareness and personalization features that Apple had promised all the way back in 2024. The new Siri will have access to your personal files and information that is typically spread across a wide array of disparate apps. This access will be paired with enhanced agentic capabilities, courtesy of the App Integration functionality, which will unlock access to an entire gamut of apps, including third-party ones. Paired with on-screen awareness and a multi-agent Siri that can tap into your preferred LLM, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT or Anthropic's Claude, Apple's revamped voice assistant is expected to unlock a whole new level of productivity and utility. The new Siri will be able to search the web, generate content, including images, provide coding assistance, summarize and analyze information, upload files, and handle combo requests that combine several commands within a single prompt. Apple is also debuting a dedicated Siri app that lists recent conversations, and sports a feature that automatically purges conversations for added privacy. What's more, the new interface will now sport a swipe-down-from-the-top gesture that will unleash an AI-powered "Search or Ask" bar within the Dynamic Island. From there, users can launch apps, start text messages, ask about the weather, add calendar appointments, search through notes, trigger shortcuts within apps, or search the web using Apple’s new AI-powered search system Other Apple Intelligence features include: A redesigned Image Playground that will get a new "describe a change" option as well the ability to produce more life-like results. You can also create custom wallpapers and images for your iPhone, all from your text-based prompts. Writing Tools will now come with a "Write With Siri" toggle located at the top of the keyboard, a "Help Me Write" option that appears when Siri is activated while a text field is open, and a dedicated AI-powered grammar check tool that will work with Grammarly to show suggestions within a translucent window next to the text. The Shortcuts app is also getting updated with the ability to create app shortcuts via natural language prompts. You can also describe to Siri what a specific shortcut does to have it seamlessly integrated within AI-powered workflows. A dedicated "Apple Intelligence Tools" section within the Photos app in the iOS 27 and macOS 27 updates unlocks three new features: Extend, Enhance, and Reframe. We already know that the upcoming chatbot-style Siri will reportedly leverage a much more advanced version of Google's Gemini model, known internally as Apple Foundation Models version 11. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, "the model is expected to be competitive with Gemini 3 and significantly more capable" than the one supporting the revamped Siri. Meanwhile, Apple is also training a host of smaller on-device models via a technique called distillation, which imbues these student models with some of the same capabilities as those possessed by their teacher model, which in this case is the licensed Google Gemini model. However, given the fact that Google's custom Gemini model has trillions of parameters, Apple has been struggling to accommodate it within its bespoke server network, called Private Cloud Compute. Accordingly, some user requests for the new Siri will now be processed directly by the licensed Gemini model in Google Cloud to ensure optimal inference, with Apple reportedly leaning towards deploying NVIDIA's B200 GPUs within Google's servers, especially as these GPUs come with a built-in encryption feature that enrypts data as it is being processed.
