A new open-world FPS, The Legend of California, will begin its alpha playtest on March 26. The game blends Western themes with survival-craft elements and online multiplayer, offering players a chance to explore its world before the official launch.
Developed by Kintsugiyama, the studio behind ex-Overwatch lead designer Jeff Kaplan, the playtest will run from March 26 to March 30. Players can sign up via Steam, but slots are limited and assigned randomly. The game is expected to launch in Early Access before a full release later this year.
The minimum hardware requirements for the alpha test include an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super with 8 GB of VRAM or an AMD Radeon RX 6600 with 8 GB, alongside 16 GB of RAM and either an Intel Core i7-10700K or an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. These specs are designed to deliver a playable experience at 30 FPS.
For those seeking smoother performance, the recommended setup jumps to an RTX 3080 or RX 6800, paired with 32 GB of RAM and a more powerful CPU like the Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X. This configuration targets 60 FPS, catering to players who want a more immersive experience.
The game’s alpha phase is described as a critical milestone for development, with Kintsugiyama planning to refine the title based on player feedback and data gathered during this test. While the minimum specs may seem modest compared to other open-world titles, they reflect a focus on accessibility without sacrificing performance, making it an intriguing prospect for both mid-range and high-end PC gamers.
