Wildlight’s Highguard receives its first major content update, arriving February 6 with a new hero, a shared wolf mount, a floating fortress map, and the addition of ranked play. The changes aim to refine the game’s competitive structure while expanding its roster and environments.

The standout addition is Ekon, a hero who transforms into a direwolf mid-combat. Unlike other characters that summon mounts, Ekon’s wolf form is his primary mobility and engagement tool. In this state, he moves faster than any other mount, sees through cover, and can track enemy scent trails—even across long distances. His ultimate ability retains wolflike traits, allowing him to close gaps with a bite attack before reverting to human form to deliver a finishing strike. Offensively, Ekon can perform an aerial dash without a target, enabling more aggressive map traversal.

Complementing Ekon’s design, a universal wolf mount is now available to all players at no cost. While visually similar to Ekon’s direwolf, the mount lacks shapeshifting abilities and serves as a standard mobility option.

Highguard Episode 2 Introduces Ranked Play, Shapeshifting Hero, and Universal Wolf Mount

New Map and Ranked Play

The update introduces Skydrift, a sprawling map built atop floating rocks and connected by chain bridges and sky jumps. Players can navigate through cavernous ruins, engage in melee combat within an ancient stone ring, and scale to a palace perched above the clouds. Skydrift supports both 3v3 and 5v5 modes.

Ranked play debuts in 3v3, aligning with the game’s tactical focus. Players will progress through seven ranks—from Bronze to Grandmaster—with three divisions per tier. Rewards are tied to final rank at the end of each episode, and future splits may introduce balance adjustments or map rotations.

Behind the Scenes

Beyond new content, the update refines Gear Up, a phase where players customize loadouts, and introduces a dedicated stats menu. Additional quality-of-life tweaks and bug fixes accompany the changes. While Highguard initially drew strong concurrent player numbers, sustained engagement has fluctuated. This update may address those concerns by deepening competitive infrastructure and expanding replayability.

Administrators should monitor server stability during the launch, particularly for ranked queues. The patch notes on Steam outline technical adjustments, including potential balance refinements for existing heroes.
