Fanatec has taken significant steps to future-proof its sim racing platform, focusing on both hardware innovation and software enhancements that will shape the industry’s trajectory for years to come.

The company’s latest moves center around expanding compatibility while simultaneously boosting performance across its direct drive wheel bases. This dual approach is designed to give sim racers greater flexibility in building their setups while also delivering more realistic and immersive experiences through advanced force feedback technology.

A key addition is the ClubSport Formula V3, a refined version of Fanatec’s iconic steering wheel. Unlike its predecessor, the V2.5, this model introduces a larger display with Intelligent Telemetry Mode, allowing users to switch between layouts such as lap times, tire temperatures, and other telemetry data. The diameter has increased to 290 mm, with revised ergonomics that better accommodate a wider range of race cars. Input controls have also been updated, including thumb-operated rotary dials with increased resistance and push functionality, along with a central rotary switch that now supports 12 positions. A second FunkySwitch replaces the previous analog stick, further enhancing customization.

Complementing this launch is the Fanatec Wheel Hub, a new adapter designed specifically for third-party USB steering wheels used with Fanatec’s Direct Drive Wheel Bases. Unlike the existing Podium Hub, which remains the best option for modular setups using Fanatec components, the Wheel Hub is tailored for non-Fanatec hardware. It features a diecast aluminum adapter plate with 6 x 70 mm and 6 x 50.8 mm mounting patterns, along with QR2 quick release functionality. This component enables a more compact design at a lower price point, increasing flexibility for users who prefer mixing brands in their setups. Fanatec is already collaborating with approved steering wheel manufacturers to integrate the Wheel Hub as a default compatibility option on their websites.

Fanatec Strengthens Sim Racing Ecosystem with Strategic Hardware and Software Enhancements

Performance improvements are also on the horizon, with a forthcoming driver update that will increase the holding torque of Fanatec’s ClubSport DD and ClubSport DD+ Wheelbases. The ClubSport DD will see its output rise from 12 Nm to 15 Nm—a 25% increase—while the ClubSport DD+ will jump from 15 Nm to 18 Nm, representing a 20% boost. These changes are expected to enhance the dynamic range of force feedback, delivering more realism and immersion. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce Full Force technology to the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheelbases, further enriching the tactile experience through physics-based vibration effects.

All performance improvements will be provided free of charge via standard firmware updates, ensuring that existing users benefit without additional cost or effort. This commitment to continuous optimization reflects Fanatec’s strategic focus on refining its platform while expanding its ecosystem’s capabilities.

The upcoming Podium Pedals, designed for mechanical precision and adjustability, will also enter the market with a price point of €699.95, though preorders have not yet begun. The Podium Pedals Formula variant is expected to share the same pricing structure. Regional adjustments may apply, but full details are available on Fanatec’s website.

For developers and sim racers alike, these updates represent a significant step toward future-proofing setups while addressing long-standing requests for greater hardware flexibility and performance refinement. The introduction of third-party compatibility solutions, coupled with incremental torque improvements, positions Fanatec as a leader in shaping the next generation of sim racing experiences.

Availability for the ClubSport Formula V3 is immediate, priced at €349.95, while the Fanatec Wheel Hub is also available now for €99.95 through Fanatec’s website and approved partner sites. The Podium Pedals will follow soon, with preorders expected to open in the coming weeks.
