LG’s 27-inch OLED gaming monitor, the 27UN850-W, is now available at a $400 discount, slashing its price to $699. The deal doesn’t change the hardware—it still uses a 1440p WQHD panel with 1 millisecond response time and 360 Hz refresh—but the lower cost introduces a new question for PC builders: can this monitor compete without sacrificing performance?
The 27UN850-W isn’t LG’s flagship model. It skips some of the bells and whistles found in higher-tier OLED displays, like 120 Hz G-Sync support or HDR10+ adaptive brightness. Instead, it focuses on raw speed: its 360 Hz refresh rate is a standout for fast-paced games, though it trades depth for brightness, with a peak of just 800 nits. For most gamers, that means dimmer visuals in bright rooms, but for competitive players in controlled environments, the high refresh rate could still be worth the compromise.
What hasn’t changed is the panel’s resolution: 2560 × 1440 pixels at 90 Hz. That’s a deliberate choice—higher resolutions would require more powerful GPUs to hit those frame rates consistently, so LG has kept it squarely in the mid-range tier. The discount doesn’t alter that positioning, but it does make the math slightly easier for builders who prioritize refresh rate over resolution.
For now, the only uncertainty is how long the price cut will last. Typically, these limited-time offers disappear as quickly as they appear, so if a 360 Hz OLED display is on your build list, this could be the window to act. Otherwise, the monitor remains exactly what it was before: a fast, but not flawless, mid-tier option.
