The OnePlus 15R has arrived, bringing with it a substantial battery upgrade and improved water resistance, but it also introduces some compromises compared to its predecessor. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which, while an improvement over the two-year-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, lacks the Elite variant found in other high-end models.
The 15R's battery capacity has been increased to 7,400mAh from the 6,000mAh of the OnePlus 13R. This significant jump is complemented by an IP68/IP69K water resistance rating, up from the previous model's IP65. The display has also seen a refresh rate increase to 165Hz, although it does not feature LTPO technology, which was present in the OnePlus 13R.
On the camera front, the 15R maintains the same 50MP main sensor and 8MP ultra-wide camera as its predecessor. However, it has done away with the telephoto camera found in previous models. Despite these changes, the device offers a free storage upgrade worth €100, making the 256GB and 512GB variants priced at €700 an attractive option.
In comparison, the Xiaomi 15T Pro presents a different set of advantages. It is powered by the Dimensity 9400 chipset, which, while not as widely recognized as Qualcomm's offerings, promises strong performance. The display on the 15T Pro is a 6.83-inch panel with 12-bit colors and a 144Hz refresh rate, although it also lacks LTPO technology.
The camera setup on the Xiaomi 15T Pro is notably superior to that of the OnePlus 15R. It features a large 50MP main sensor and a dedicated 50MP 5x/115mm periscope, along with a 12MP ultra-wide camera. This setup is complemented by a smaller battery capacity of 5,500mAh, which, despite being less than half the size of the OnePlus 15R's battery, supports both 90W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Both devices offer distinct advantages depending on user needs. The OnePlus 15R is ideal for those prioritizing battery life and water resistance, while the Xiaomi 15T Pro caters to users who value superior camera performance. With both devices available at competitive prices, they present compelling options in their respective segments.
